Dr. Barrett enjoyed a 25 year career as a general surgeon in Richmond, IN. After retiring in 2017, he ran for office and has served as State Representative for District 56 since 2018. For the last 5 years , Representative Barrett has been Chair of the House Public Health Committee and has enjoyed shaping health policy for Indiana. His life experiences include practicing medicine in Africa, the UK and rural Indiana, serving on both the Reid Health governing board and the board of the Wayne County Boys and Girls Club, and most recently serving as President of the Indiana Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. He is the proud father of two children, Drew and Erin, and has lived in Richmond with his wife, MaryAnn, for the last 32 years. As a family, they enjoy traveling, watching sports, playing golf and working outdoors.
