UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL INDIANA
Greg Fennig has been a strong business and community leader for more than 25 years. He brings a unique perspective of being a leader in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors including healthcare, education, environmental and utility. Greg’s experience includes executive leadership and developing strong teams, fundraising, community engagement, marketing, stakeholder management and board leadership and development.
In his most recent role as Chief Marketing, Communications and Community Relations Officer for United Way of Central Indiana, Greg’s leadership has become vital to the success of the organization’s evolving new strategic framework. His diverse background supports the integration of effective marketing, communication and community relations strategies, both internally and externally, across all functional areas of United Way, as well as the six-county area.
Prior to joining United Way of Central Indiana, Greg served as Vice President of Public Affairs for Indianapolis Power & Light Company. At IPL he was responsible for restoring the company’s reputation as a corporate leader. He was known as the most customer focused person at IPL and was honored to be asked to serve on the JD Power Utility Advisory Board. After over 13 years as Vice President of Public Affairs at IPL, he was named Vice President of Customer Experience for both IPL and Dayton Power and Light (both owned by AES).
Greg also served as President of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful (KIB) for 10 years. During his tenure, he diversified KIB’s income sources and strengthened its relationship with the City of Indianapolis and other key stakeholders, significantly increasing individual, corporate and foundation support for the organization.
Greg has also been very engaged in the community, gaining board and committee leadership experience with many nonprofit organizations. He currently serves as Chair of Gleaners, Secretary of Visit Indy, and Chair of the Advancement and Communication Committee of Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership. He has also served as chair of the boards of Indianapolis Parks Foundation, Lacy Leadership Association and the Kiwanis Foundation and served on the boards of the Indianapolis Chamber and 500 Festival, to name a few. Greg also served as Chair of Zoobilation and the IPL 500 Festival Parade, both iconic events in our community.
Greg’s core passions are people and community. He continually looks for opportunities to impact peoples’ lives and create stronger more vibrant communities. He and his wife Donna are long-time residents of Central Indiana, have three grown children and attend Mount Pleasant Christian Church.
